Complimentary Alternative Medicine Used In Conjunction With Traditional Medicine

Traditional medicine for years was the only choice for patients. Alternative medicines were not accepted or promoted within the medical field.  Modern medicine has become more open minded in the past few years, as to the acceptability of alternative medicine.  Some practitioners of alternative medicine and doctors now work jointly together in assisting patients.  This is termed complimentary alternative medicine, and is becoming more common to find.

Complimentary Alternative Medicine: Integrated To Work With Traditional Medicine

There are some forms of complimentary alternative medicine that seem somewhat surprising.  Aromatherapy is used by some physician in their offices or even recovery rooms.  Aromatherapy is an alternative medicine that uses the sense of smell to trigger a healing response in the body.  Different scents can have differing results on a person.  Vanilla is often used to calm, and relax patients.  This form of complimentary alternative medicine is non-intrusive and can be done quite easily.

Another complimentary alternative medicine that is used quite frequently is Chiropractic medicine.  Today, Chiropractors can be found in any office building.  Many will work with the more traditional side of medicine to help facilitate a whole body approach to healing.  Osteopathic medicine is another medical practice that is considered mainstream, and yet takes a whole body approach to healing by emphasizing the importance of one function of the bodies affect on another.  Both of these complimentary alternative medicine practices are considered reputable and reliable.

Massage is considered a complimentary alternative medicine, as often patients that have torn ligaments or muscle problems will be referred to a massage therapist.  This works well with traditional medical practices, and again the importance of the patients whole body health is emphasized and concentrated on.

Some patients will use homeopathic medicine in conjunction with traditional medical intervention.  It is important to always inform a physician when seeking complimentary alternative medicine treatment.  Homeopathic medicine involves the use of treating a patient with what is the underlying source of their problem. If a person has an allergy to something they are then given that in doses until their body is then able to resist it and is no longer having a reaction to it.  Many people have found these treatments successful and this is an increasingly popular choice for patients.

Complimentary alternative medicine is thought to work well with the more traditional forms of medicine that are practiced.  For many physicians, alternative medicine is not a threat to their own advice, but a supplement that can assist their patients in achieving the best health that they can.
